I bought new cushions for the couch and MaDge's chair weeks ago with every intention of making covers to go with them. I opted for 24" and 20" inserts without a single thought for how much material it was going to take. Imagine my horror when I went to price fabric that was sturdy and strong enough for the job. Way too much cash in these days of watching the pennies so the project was put on hold.
Today while in Falkirk, I wandered into the charity shop. I found a huge bin of wool and dived in,as you do, surfacing with these gems.
Jaegar cotton DK @ 50p a ball
Patons cotton DK @ 50p a ball
After I paid for them, I wandered around the shop looking at the toot, odds and sods before ending at the curtains. I spied a pair I liked and did my usual, walked away from them. I walked around the shops with Leigh, constantly thinking about those curtains, and decided I had to go back for them or would regret it all weekend. So I did.
Look at that lovely jewel red/purple hanging out after washing. Did I tell you the material is two tone? Yip, move it and it changes from purple to red and vice versa. The woman in the shop insisted she measure them, even though I told her I was going to cut them up to make cushion covers. They may clash with the terracotta of my couch but after watching Kaffe Fassett on kirstie's homemade home , I don't give a jot. He said be a slob with colour and that's exactly what I'm gonna do. Especially when I'll be getting all my cushion covers for £8.....Result!!
I also bought the curtains on the right as I thought I could mix and match but we have decided that they are too kitcheny for the living room. They are going to be a table cloth and cushion covers for the garden table and chairs. I am going to cut up some of the pillows that seem to be multiplying in the loft as cushion inserts. Total price for this project comes in slightly more expensive at £9. But not to worry though.I splurged out even more and added thred to my final haul of goods. Ain't they just lovely? Probably older then me!
Finally, I have an announcement. MaDge's 'wily' is in full bloom.
Ain't it looking strong and virile?
We bought this clematis at Clematis World when visiting Mum and Dad G years ago. The reason we bought it was because of the totally rude name!
How childish.
